flavours of the month september

Here’s some of the music that got my attention this past month:

Pet Shop Boys

Sometimes we have to indulge in our guilty pleasures. Musically this usaully means some crap from the 80s for me. I’m hooked on this right now:

The XX

crossThese young kids from London have (self-)produced the best record i’ve heard in quite some time. I first saw them in a session of Amsterdam Acoustics, which we also did. I have to admit i wasn’t really impressed. But then i started coming across some of there tracks on MP3 on the intraweb, started to listen. Something dark, yet catchy, kept me interested. When heard the entire album i was sold. It sounds minimal, dark, soft, yet harsh, and most importantly, really innovative. I even like the acoustic session now. Here are 2 gems from the record:

Julian Casablancas

orsbh1-1

More news on his solo project Phrazes for the Young. He has a single out. It sounds good, but i know there’s so much more still to come, so i can’t get hysterical just yet. Listen on his myspace.com/juliancasablancas

Phoenix – Rome Remix

by Neighbour & Devandra Banhart. Finally a remix of a Wolfgang Amadeus track that doesn’t tend towards dance music (as the original already does).

Coparck – A Dog And Pony Show

And ofcourse Coparck. Read the previous post for more on that.
